Artist Delphine Alphonse Meet Artist Delphine Alphonse

The artist exploring feminity through portraits

Delphine Alphonse was born and raised in 1986 in the Parisian region from french Guinea parents. She displayed a passion for photographs and drawings from an early age on and started to explore subjects and images in high school. After a diploma in photography in north of France, she decided to explore the afro carribean habitat in a serie of photographs.

Reconnecting with her heritage and Identity

In 2009, she came back to the Parisian region to study Fine Arts and decided to take a step back from photography to focus on painting. She started working on her identity and cultural heritage by proposing a plastic thinking around these subjects.

During her childhood and adolescence, she has been animated by imagineries, colorful and fantastical universes such as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderlands. She also finds her inspiration in Gustav Klimt and Kehinde Wiley’s works.

Using both her culture and influences, she started to work on women portraits with a touch of dreaminess and living hair.

Women portraits

After exploring her identity as a black woman, she broaden her creative process to explore Black and mixed-race women in their diversity of character, emotions, beauty, strenghs…

To convey her emotions and imagination, she uses mixed techniques and different materials such as fabric, embroidery, gold leaf…

With her portraits, she wants to share a different point of view of these women… Leaving the spectator imaginative and dreamy…
